A year on from the opening of the NZ Liberation Museum – Te Arawhata

This week Te Arawhata celebrates one year since we opened our doors.

We will be marking the first year of the museum with reflections of the past twelve months.  We will also be sharing a Kiwi soldier’s wartime love letters written from Le Quesnoy.  Tom McCreary’s beautifully romantic and perceptive writing transports you back to the Western Front and the events of the liberation on 4 November.

“He had a great love for my grandmother,” says Rob McCreary, Tom’s grandson who lives in Wairarapa. “I never knew Tom, but through the letters I got to know a part of him and he’s always a part of me.”

This is just one of the remarkable stories Te Arawhata has helped to uncover since it opened on October 11 last year.

Stay tuned as we celebrate the museum’s many first-year milestones, its stories, and our focus for the future.
