ANZAC DAY

LATEST ANZAC DAY NEWS 2024

ANZAC Day is a solemn national day of remembrance observed in Australia and New Zealand every year on April 25th. It commemorates the members of the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps (ANZAC) who served and died in all wars, conflicts, and peacekeeping missions, particularly those who fought during World War I. The day holds particular significance as it marks the anniversary of the ANZACs’ landing at Gallipoli in 1915, a campaign that resulted in heavy casualties but also became a symbol of courage, sacrifice, and national identity for both nations.

ANZAC Day is typically marked by dawn services, marches, and ceremonies across Australia and New Zealand. At dawn, the “ANZAC Dawn Service” symbolizes the time of the original landing and pays homage to the soldiers who bravely fought. Throughout the day, people gather to lay wreaths, observe moments of silence, and reflect on the sacrifices made by those who served their countries. ANZAC Day serves as a reminder of the enduring legacy of those who served, fostering a sense of national pride and unity while honoring the memory of the fallen.

Anzac Day is commemorated in Le Quesnoy with a special service on the nearest Sunday to Anzac Day.  It is a special service attended by hundreds of locals and kiwis each year.

In 2025,  the service will likely be held on Sunday 27 April 2025
