2025 begins with two chances to explore the culture and fauna of Aotearoa New Zealand.

Waitangi Day – Sunday 9 February
6 February holds special significance for New Zealanders, being the anniversary of the signing of te Tiriti o Waitangi / the Treaty of Waitangi in 1840. To recognise this important date, Te Arawhata invites you to participate in a special tour focussing on the Māori symbols and elements present in the museum. Following the tour, we will be holding a workshop where you can learn how to introduce yourself in te reo Māori – the indigenous language of Aotearoa New Zealand. Entry to the museum will also be free for this special day, with the tour and workshop being 8€ together.
School Holiday Programme - Saturday 22 February
Native Birds of New Zealand
They’re beautiful and baffling, the native birds of New Zealand. Thanks to centuries living without predators, our birds adapted to their idyllic surroundings – some became nimble acrobats, whizzing through the forest after bugs; others lost their ability to fly altogether, instead opting for strong legs and a long beak to hunt for grubs on the ground. However, since the arrival of people and their pets (or their stowaways), many New Zealand birds have been in trouble. Come learn about their quirks and qualities at Te Arawhata on 22 February 2025. 5€ per person.
