Our new exhibition, Who Were These Young Soldiers?, opened on 29 July.
The exhibition displays some forty works from New Zealand artist, Lindsey Kirk, whose multi-media tableaux aim to delve deeper into the stories and personalities of the soldiers who fought and died in Le Quesnoy.
Having first come to Le Quesnoy in 2019, Kirk exhibited her paintings here in 2023 at the Maison Quercitaine de la Nouvelle-Zélande.
Today, Te Arawhata is delighted to present a selection of her new works.
Through her paintings, Kirk encourages us to look beyond the names engraved in stone and imagine the lives, dreams and destinies of these young men who came from the other side of the world.
Her works are the result of extensive research, including interviews with surviving family members. Each artwork carries the story of an individual and a legacy to be passed on from generation to generation.
Who Were These Young Soldiers? is now open.
