A lot of planning goes into a school trip across the world. However, even the most detailed travel plans cannot account for the outbreak of global conflicts.
Understandably, the beginning of war in Iran in February meant several New Zealand schools had their Autumn travel plans upended.
While some of these schools had to cancel their trips indefinitely, others were able to reschedule to the New Zealand Spring holidays.
On Sunday 27 September, a joint History and Classics class from Marlborough Boys’ and Marlborough Girls’ Colleges visited Le Quesnoy.
The group first visited Te Arawhata, taking in the deep human focus of the exhibition and the importance of the friendship between the people of Le Quesnoy and New Zealanders.
The Marlborough visit was followed by a class from Taupo Nui a Tia College. This was the second time that Taupo Nui a Tia has sent a class to Te Arawhata, and the 20 students enjoyed their visit, especially their guided tour of the Museum.
As part of the group was studying French, the Te Arawhata team was able to conduct the visit bilingually.
