The formula is clear: French school visits are conducted in French, New Zealand school visits in English. It’s not always so straight forward.
This month, Te Arawhata welcomed a visit of 50 students from Haumont’s Collège Saint-Exupéry, a school with an English-language stream starting for students aged 12. Accordingly, a visit to Te Arawhata provided a fantastic opportunity to learn about the history of the liberation of Le Quesnoy while also practicing English.
To accommodate such a large group, the students were split into three groups and rotated through the ground floor and first floor of the museum, before heading to a presentation about the life of a kid in New Zealand with Marketing and Operations Manager, Jacob Siermans. To wrap up the visit, the group walked through the ramparts of Le Quesnoy and took in the New Zealand Memorial and the location of the ladder ascent.
Te Arawhata, with its bilingual team and highly accessible museum experience, is uniquely equipped to provide interactive and meaningful visits to school groups, whether in French or in English. If you wish to learn more about our educational offering, do not hesitate to get in touch.
