The A in ANZAC

Te Arawhata is a place to remember the Great War and reflect on the sacrifices made during five immensely difficult years. While the museum focusses on the story of the New Zealand Rifle Brigade at Le Quesnoy, it is important to recognise that the Kiwi soldiers started the War alongside the Australians as part of the ANZACs.

On Saturday 19 October, we had the pleasure of welcoming Myriam Barale, Visitor Services Officer from the Sir John Monash Centre, who shared stories of the Australian experience on the Western Front, after our two nations split into their separate forces.  Our meeting room was packed to the gunnels with visitors rapt to listen to these episodes of our brothers from Down Under.

The Sir John Monash Centre is Australia’s home on the Western Front.  Situated at Villers-Bretonneux in the Somme, the Centre is an immersive, moving experience and well worth the visit.  An enormous thank you to Myriam for her visit – what a magnificent presentation!
